In 2004, before Wairakei Pastoral Limited commenced any development work on Wairakei Estate we undertook an extensive process of due diligence. This resulted in a comprehensive baseline monitoring programme of surface water, ground water and ecology which helped set a benchmark for understanding the potential effects of our land uses.
To keep all this important information current, relative to this initial platform, an on-going monitoring programme is undertaken to provide meaningful real-time data. This information feed makes it possible for us to alerted to any change and be in a position to adjust our operational practices to negate or at least minimise any effects.
The current Wairakei Estate monitoring programme looks at surface and ground water sampling for nutrients, ecology, stream biochemistry as well as flows, and ground water levels.
