About Wairakei Estate
Wairakei Estate is one of the largest developments of environmental pastoral holdings in the Southern Hemisphere. Owned by Wairakei Pastoral Limited, Wairakei Estate was established in 2004, and is situated within the spectacular central volcanic plateau of the North Island, between the settlement of Reporoa and the township of Taupō
Located within the Ngāti Tahu – Ngāti Whaoa rohe, the Estate encompasses over 25,000ha of land, with nearly 150kms of rivers and streams flowing through it, including 28km of Waikato River frontage.
From pastoral farming, livestock grazing, forestry, riparian waterways, and restored wetlands, to extensive native planting and birdlife, Wairakei Estate is home to diverse and precious natural resources of significant scale.
Wairakei Estate’s owners see themselves as stewards and guardians of the land dedicated to its health, wellbeing, and prosperity, both now and for the future.
They recognise that managing these extensive and diverse areas of New Zealand’s natural landscape is a responsibility. As custodians, they ensure that significant resources are dedicated to gaining the best possible understanding of the land, and its attributes as a whole.
This approach is an integral part of the Estate’s values, and those of its partners who manage key operations. It supports the long-term environmental sustainability of the land and natural resources, while ensuring that it can realise its full potential to support economic growth and prosperity.
